Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram as they continue their hunt for a new striker, confirms the Daily Mail’s Simon Jones. The Red Devils are lacking in genuine number nine options after the untimely departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

United’s Stance on Potential Marcus Thuram Move Revealed

The 25-year-old striker played really well for France at the World Cup, even though his appearances were as a substitute. He picked up two assists in five appearances, which included one for Kylian Mbappe in the World Cup final against Argentina.

Thuram’s contract with Borussia Monchengladbach is set to expire at the end of June, after which he will become a free agent if unable to agree on a new deal. The 25-year-old – who was called ‘world class’ by his club’s manager Daniel Farke earlier this season – is now permitted to talk with foreign clubs and even sign a pre-contract agreement before joining them for free in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have found an interest in this and are monitoring the developments over his situation. However, they’re unlikely to make a move for him in the January transfer window due to their financial situation. United are only looking at potential loan deals to sign a new striker, which involves contemplating short-term moves for Barcelona forward Memphis Depay or Al Nassr striker Vincent Aboubakar.

United Troubled by Lack of Forward Options

Manchester United are having major problems when it comes to scoring goals, having only scored 24 in 16 Premier League games so far this season. The Manchester side have scored the fewest goals among all the sides in the top six, with their highest-scorer in the league being Marcus Rashford on six.

That is why Erik ten Hag is keen on getting a new striker who can help them finish the myriad chances they create and give them a push in the second half of the season.
