Romano adds that Raya’s position right now is clear, he really hopes that a top club pushes to sign him in the summer and is ready to leave Thomas Frank’s side after this season is over. However, it’s also stated that Brentford will ask for a fee of around £35 million – which is a pretty high fee for a goalkeeper and would make him their club-record sale too.

Raya has already rejected a contract offer from Brentford and is waiting on the possibility of playing for a major club and in competitions like the Champions League after excelling for the Bees this season.

The Red Devils did not trigger an automatic one-year contract extension on De Gea’s deal last year as they are reportedly continuing talks to make him sign a new contract on reduced wages. However, they’re also interested in Raya and could be eyeing him as a future replacement for the 31-year-old.

This is despite De Gea having featured in every single Premier League game under Erik ten Hag so far this season. He’s kept 13 clean sheets in 29 appearances and is jointly at the top of the Golden Glove leaderboard. Irrespective of whatever happens with their current no.1, United are likely to face stiff competition from the likes of Chelsea and Spurs for Raya – who was recently described as ‘one of the best in the Premier League’ by Thomas Frank and has kept nine clean sheets in the Premier League for Brentford this season.
