Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Another Week Without A Win

Oxford United

Another week and another frustrating set of results for Oxford United as their winless run stretched to 17 games.

The U’s have three fixtures remaining, with two against sides that are currently below them in the table.

This week, however, brought just one point from their two league games, leaving Liam Manning’s side outside the bottom four on goal difference.

Draw Against Pompey

Oxford’s winless run may have continued but it was another dominant and promising display in their 1-1 draw against Portsmouth.

The U’s fell behind to a brilliant free kick from Marlon Pack but Sam Long levelled before the break with a header from a corner.

The hosts had several chances to win the game but their lack of a killer instinct in front of goal once again proved costly.

However, results around them meant Liam Manning’s side sit one point clear of the bottom four ahead of a trip to Barnsley at the weekend.

Milk Cup Anniversary for Oxford United

On Thursday, Oxford United celebrated the anniversary of one of the most famous days in their history – winning the 1986 Milk Cup.

The U’s ran out 3-0 winners against favourites Queens Park Rangers at Wembley to give the club their first-ever piece of silverware, in what was also their first-ever season in the top flight following back-to-back promotions.

Since then, the club have dropped four divisions into non-league and gained two promotions into League One, which is where they are now.

Winless Run Extended Further With Defeat at Oakwell

Oxford are now 17 games without a win following a 2-0 defeat on the road against promotion hopefuls Barnsley.

A brace either side of half-time from Slobodan Tadic sealed the win for the Tykes, with the result leaving Oxford outside the bottom four on goal difference only.

Unlike the previous game against Pompey, the U’s rarely threatened their opponents, despite a couple of late chances for Yanic Wildschut.
