Phil Jones Among Players United Will Release

It has been reported that the Red Devils will prioritise the signing of a new striker in the summer to solve their goal-scoring issues, with the club reportedly aiming to sign Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane – despite knowing how difficult that can be to pull off.

Luckhurst adds that Phil Jones – who is a Premier League winner at Old Trafford and has been a part of the club since 2011 – will be among the players that will be let go after their contracts expire at the end of the season. Jones was hailed as “phenomenal” after his one (and only) appearance for United last year in their 1-0 loss to Wolves in the Premier League. He has not played a single game under Erik ten Hag and will be let go.

It’s also added that Axel Tuanzebe – who played in the Champions League for the Red Devils – will also be released after struggling to make it at the first-team level due to injuries. Moreover, United will reportedly let go of youth team players Charlie Wellens, Ondrej Mastny and Mateo Mejia.

What Are United’s Plans for Summer Window?

Ten Hag is likely to push to strengthen his Manchester United squad after enjoying a pretty good debut season so far, in which he helped them end their trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup title. He is going to need quality additions to get the Red Devils competing at the very top.

Along with Kane, it has also been reported that United are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani and might have to pay a high fee for him. They are also seemingly looking to sign a new centre-midfielder and have been linked to Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot. While United will not get any money from letting off these players, they will be able to get their wages off their financial books and increase their wage capacity for new players.
