United Preparing ‘Opening Bid’ for Rasmus Hojlund
Ten Hag’s Search for New Striker
United have been on the hunt for a new number nine ever since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure prior to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Ronaldo left United abruptly after an explosive interview with Piers Morgan left the striker’s position at Old Trafford untenable.
Since then, the Red Devils have struggled to fill the void left by the Portuguese superstar, with Wout Weghorst failing to impress during his short loan spell at the back end of last season.
The Dutch international could only muster up two goals for United in 31 appearances and failed to find the back of the net in 17 Premier League games.

Ten Hag has therefore been searching for a new striker this summer, with England captain Harry Kane heavily linked with a move from Tottenham. However, the 29-year-old forward has his eyes set on a move to German juggernauts Bayern Munich, according to reports.
The Old Trafford club has now turned its efforts towards securing the services of Danish striker Hojlund, who has been described as a “goal machine” by a former opponent.
What has Romano Said About the Hojlund Deal?
Romano has given an update on United’s pursuit of Hojlund, stating that the club are “preparing their opening bid” for the 20-year-old Atalanta striker.
The Italian journalist also revealed that the Serie A club value Hojlund at around £60 million, and rejected an offer of three players heading in the opposite directions after “initial talks” were held between the two sides.
Personal terms are already “100% agreed”, and Hojlund “wants United”, according to Romano, who added that the next step will be an “official bid” from the Red Devils.
Following this, United-bound star Andre Onana appears to have leaked his desire for the Dane to move to Old Trafford, liking an Instagram post which made reference to the Red Devils preparing their offer to Atalanta.

Hojlund is a player with a growing reputation, having impressed initially in Austria with Strum Graz, scoring 12 goals in 21 appearances before netting 10 in 34 games in Italy with Atalanta.
The Dane has also burst onto the international scene recording six goals in six caps – all of which came in his last four games during qualifying games for Euro 2024 – earning him comparisons with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
