‘Exploring Deal’: Journalist Outlines New Target for European Champions

What the Post Stated

Ornstein’s exact word to describe this news was that the reigning English champions were “exploring” a Nunes signing. The 24-year-old Brazilian-born player, who represents Portugal, is seen as one of a very small group of footballers that can add depth to the Citizens team.

Wolves, according to the Athletic’s journalist, are not keen to let Nunes go. He played 34 Premier League matches for the club last campaign and cemented himself as an integral force on the pitch. Without him, they could face an even bigger challenge to avoid relegation.

Ornstein’s Athletic Article on Nunes Pursuit

The journalist also wrote an article for The Athletic, which gave more details than his social media revelation. “Manchester City are pursuing Nunes likely because of the recent injury to Kevin de Bruyne. It is not possible to replace a superstar like the Belgian, but with the Lucas Paqueta deal off the Manchester club need to find an alternative.”

One aspect of this potential deal that benefits Guardiola is that Wolves are not in a financially stable state. A Nunes sale would help stabilise the club. Ornstein further noted that “Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace is another attacking midfielder on City’s recruitment list,” as their quest to defend the treble carries on.

Fabrizio Romano’s First Tweet

Not one to miss a transfer or rumour, fellow journalist Fabrizio Romano also reported on the news. The Italian claimed that Nunes was currently ahead of Eze on the list of Manchester City targets. City and Wolves are negotiating what a deal would look like.

Bid Made for Nunes

Not long after his first statement on Wednesday, Romano updated the situation with even bigger news. City have made their first bid to Wolves for Nunes. Including add-ons, over £43 million has been offered by the Citizens for the Portuguese international. The midfielder’s current stance: “personal terms agreed.”
