In recent reports, Johnson was described as being the perfect fit for Spurs, and as Ange Postecoglou’s number one attacking target. The attacker has 42 goals to his name and could be more prolific in a top team’s system.

The 22-year-old can play as a centre forward, winger, shadow striker, or attacking midfielder, and has several qualities that would boost the Tottenham front line.

Tottenham Faced Competition For Johnson

The Lilywhites weren’t the only Premier League club interested in securing Johnson’s signature.

Brentford were also keen on bringing him in, with their key striker Ivan Toney unavailable for selection until the New Year. The Bees were also set to smash their transfer record, with the Telegraph reporting on a bid of £40 million. This followed Nottingham Forest rejecting two earlier offers from Brentford, believed to be in the region of between £30 million and £35 million.

Tottenham remained keen on Johnson, despite the interest from elsewhere, and Chairman Daniel Levy had opened discussions with Forest.

Fabrizio Romano Update Gives Tottenham Boost

The Lilywhites have seen their chances of signing the Welshman given a massive boost as their direct opposition have apparently dropped out of the race and turned their attention to other targets. This is according to top football journalist Romano.

The Italian took to his X account, reporting that Brentford have left conversations and Tottenham have already held positive talks with the player. All that’s left now is for Nottingham Forest to accept a bid.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham can make an offer too good to turn down and secure Johnson’s signature before the transfer window slams shut on September 1.
