Clement Lenglet Set To Join Aston Villa

Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is set to join Aston Villa in a loan deal, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Romano gave his now famous “here we go” quote and said Lenglet was set to travel to England after an agreement was reached on a loan deal. He also claimed the player had already agreed to the move and paperwork just needs to be signed before the move is finalised.

Lenglet No Stranger To English Football

Aston Villa have made several big signings this summer as Head Coach Unai Emery looks for the club to push on after last season’s seventh placed finish in the Premier League.

Sometimes, players from abroad can take a while to settle in and it can scupper a club’s progress. Lenglet shouldn’t have that problem as he is familiar with English football after spending last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur.

The French international made a total of 36 appearances in all competition for Spurs and recent reports suggested Lenglet could be heading back to North London. This followed a summer of rumours over the possibility of Lenglet moving to Spurs.

However, it looks likely he will be heading back to the Premier League but with a different club.

Details of Lenglet to Aston Villa Deal Revealed

Following his initial “here we go” message, Romano followed up with another post to reveal more details of the deal Aston Villa have agreed to bring Lenglet in on loan.

In the latter tweet, Romano claims the deal is strictly a loan deal with no option or obligation for Villa to make the move permanent.

He also revealed that Villa will be paying 75 per cent of the defender’s wages. This will be a substantial wage as sites such as capology and fbref have Lenglet’s wage listed at approximately £198,000 a week.
