Chelsea fans hoped that the purchases of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in the summer would have changed the club’s fortunes after a poor showing last season. That, so far, has not been the case. The Blues remain stuck in the middle of the Premier League table. Mauricio Pochettino has a long road in front of him to return the West London outfit to its former glory. According to Florian Plettenberg, that road might be travelled minus one.

German Journalist Covers Potential Move Between Two European Giants
The Sky Sports Germany journalist stated that there was “new movement between Trevoh Chalobah and Bayern Munich.” Chelsea had been in negotiations with the German outfit over the summer transfer window, but a move did not materialize. Now, the 24-year-old is involved in a potential transfer to the Bavarian club.

Bayern are interested in Chalobah “as they are still looking for a new right-back.” Primarily, the Englishman is deployed as a centre-back or defensive midfielder, but he has been utilized as a right-back in the past. The Munich outfit are again among the favourites to win the Champions League, but must address their backline to have a chance against the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Plettenberg noted that Chalobah is not likely to join Bayern on a permanent deal. He reported that “There’s contact now,” and “Talks and ideas about a loan of the 24 y/o.” After loans to Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Lorient, the 24-year-old began to establish himself in the Chelsea first team during the 2022/23 campaign.
Chalobah’s Potential
Despite aiming for a loan, Bayern realizes that Chalobah still has time to grow and develop. His beast years of football are still ahead of him. A EURO U19 champion with the English youth squad, the defender has been described as “fantastic,” and could make his mark if a move to the German giants is secured.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will want to secure a European spot in the English top flight. Chalobah’s departure, if a deal is agreed to, could raise criticism if the Blues are unable to improve their form. Pochettino has spent far more than Thomas Tuchel has, but the German manager has been able to produce much better results.
