‘A Talent for the Future’: Chelsea Lining Up Shock Move for Premier League ‘Wonderkid’

'Wonderkid' Jhon Duran from Aston Villa is a top target for Chelsea

David Ornstein has reported that Chelsea are looking to sign Aston Villa attacker Jhon Duran in the final days of the window. The West London clubs’ intention to acquire the 20-year-old Colombian international is complicated due to his recent injury, which is expected to sideline him until April, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. However, latest reports suggest that the deal is still a major possibility.

Aston Villa Youngster’s Move Depends on Armando Broja Situation

The Blues had scheduled direct contact with all parties in order to discuss the potential signing of Duran, as well as an exit for Armando Broja, as Romano reported a few days ago. The Blues are yet to make a final decision on whether to make a formal bid, however Matt Law of The Telegraph reported that the club “hold a legitimate interest” in the 20-year-old.

Ornstein, said in his latest report that the deal is still a possibility despite the injury. This is because the player is mainly viewed as a long term investment and “a talent for the future”. Duran would give Mauricio Pochettino’s side options in attack alongside Nicolas Jackson, who has struggled to be efficient in front of goal despite scoring seven goals in 19 appearances so far in his debut season.

The Chelsea management have been in talks internally to discuss the next steps for a potential move. Both Law and Romano suggested that a potential arrival of the Colombia international depends upon the exit of Broja, who is heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. Villa have already rejected a loan proposal for Duran, who has been dubbed a “wonderkid“, from West Ham United.

The young striker was signed by Villa in last January for a transfer fee in the region of £18 million. He has deputised for the Premier League side’s main number 9, Ollie Watkins since his move to the Midlands and has two goals this season in just 171 minutes played.

Duran is an extremely talented player but he is very raw at the tender age of 20. He has all the ingredients to be a top performer in the Premier League. The 2003-born striker is fast and possesses strength which enables him to hold off defenders, he also has a sharp eye for goal.

The South American attacker is likely to be a squad player for Chelsea but could get decent amount of playing time owing to the injury concerns of Christopher Nkunku and a dip in Nicolas Jackson’s form.
