Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Red Devils “have been linked” to the Inter Milan full-back but the final decision on whether or not to actually push for his signing will depend on their new director. United have recently been started to get strongly rumoured to have an interest in bringing in Newcastle United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth to take a similar role at Old Trafford and be influential in their future transfers.

When it comes to the situation of Dumfries after his impressive performances for the Serie A side this season, Romano further stated on his CaughtOffside blog: “Denzel Dumfries could leave Inter in the summer. It’s a possibility because there’s still no agreement on a new deal at the moment. So, let’s see what the new director wants to do about right-backs; but there are multiple clubs that appreciate Dumfries so I’m sure it’s gonna be a busy summer for the Dutchman.”
Why Is Dumfries Attracting Interest?
The 27-year-old Dutch full-back’s contract with Inter Milan is set to expire in June, 2025, which is probably why he is starting to be linked to a possible summer transfer. Dumfries has been a regular figure for the Italian side this term, having made 21 appearances for them in all competitions and scoring two goals as well as providing four assists.
He has played his part in helping them be in a comfortable position to win the Serie A championship again and has also been praised for his recent performances for the Netherlands national team, being hailed as “the ideal defender”. Having made 117 appearances for Inter so far, Dumfries is an experienced player who can operate as a full-back and wing-back, and it remains to be seen if United want to bring him in to add more depth to their right-fullback position in the summer.
