Bayern Munich Predicted Lineup vs Real Madrid For May 8

How the Congested Fixture List Affects Bayern Munich

After the at times disturbingly careless performance in the Bundesliga’s Southern Derby against VfB Stuttgart at the weekend, Bayern Munich face Real Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal. No one at the club even tries to hide the fact that the Bavarians only care about reaching the European final, while disregarding whether they finish second or third domestically.

Should they make it to Wembley on June 1, the Stuttgart loss will no doubt be forgotten. But there is much work to be done, for that to happen. Last Word on Football brings you our Bayern Munich predicted lineup for the match in Madrid.

How Bayern Munich Have Lined Up Recently

There has been much rotation in the Bayern squad of late. That has been reflective of the fact that the team prioritise European football, now that it offers the last remaining opportunity to win a title this season. If that fails, it would be the first time since 2012, for the Bavarians to go trophyless.

The starting lineup in Stuttgart was as follows: Manuel Neuer began in goal. Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies played on the flanks, as Eric Dier was the centre-back alongside Min-jae Kim, and Raphael Guerreiro joined Aleksandar Pavlovic as the holding midfielder pairing. Meanwhile, Mathys Tel and Serge Gnabry covered the wings, as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting joined Harry Kane up front.

That means that there were six changes made to the team that started the first game against Real. Davies, Pavlovic, Guerreiro, Gnabry, Choupo-Moting and Tel, all came in for Noussair Mazraoui, Konrad Laimer, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané as well as Jamal Musiala.

Bayern Munich Recent Form and Tactics

When putting the Stuttgart result aside, Bayern go into this game with plenty to feel good about. They had four wins and the first-leg draw from the five previous matches. The home leg against Madrid should probably give them the most hope and confidence though. It may well have been the best performance of this season. But they will have to do even better this time, in order to advance.

Tactically, the 4-3-3 that coach Thomas Tuchel used in the second half last week should be the go-to formation from the start this time around. But as simplistic as the following may sound, the most important component of the game for Bayern will neither be the formation, nor the lineup. It will all come down to avoiding individual errors and taking advantage of scoring opportunities when they come along.

Bayern Munich Injuries to Consider

The problem with keeping the formation that worked so well in the second half of the first leg, is that the key part of it, Guerreiro picked up an injury on the weekend and will not be available for the second leg. Apart from him, Kingsley Coman, Sacha Boey and, Bouna Sarr also missed the final training session ahead of the team’s departure to Spain, due to injury.
