Aleksandar Pavlovic has extended his stay at Bayern Munich until the summer of 2029, ending any speculation of a departure.

Five More Years With The German Giants
A product of Bayern’s youth academy, Pavlovic, described by Tuchel as “sensational,” made his senior debut for Die Roten in October of 2023 against Darmstadt, coming on as a substitute in an 8-0 win. His talent was immediately noticeable and he went on to become a main part of Bayern’s engine room, going on to play 18 league matches throughout the 2023/24 season, starting 15.

With the 20-year-old securing his future for another five years, he’ll be hoping to impress his new manager Vincent Kompany, who ended his two-year stint with Burnley at the end of the Premier League campaign in favour of accepting Bayern’s managerial offer after they parted ways with Thomas Tuchel.
Reaction To His Extension
Speaking to Bayern’s official channels, Pavlovic couldn’t hide his joy at remaining with his childhood club: “I’m thrilled that my contract with FC Bayern has been extended until 2029. It shows the club has trust in me, which I’m eager to repay. FC Bayern is my home. I’m proud, happy and grateful, want to win trophies with the team and continue my personal development.”

He immediately established himself as a core member of the first team from his very first season and even went on to play for his national team. He may be young, but he radiates calm and gives the team a sense of security. He carries FC Bayern in his heart and we’re looking forward to the years ahead.”
His Decision Over National Team Representation
Born in Munich to a Serbian father, Pavlovic holds Serbian-German dual citizenship. In 2021, he was called up to the Serbia U18s for some friendlies but did not make an appearance. Then, in late 2023, the Germans came calling and he was selected for their U20 side, for whom he played two matches. In March 2024, senior team boss Julian Nagelsmann named him in his squad for some friendlies against France and the Netherlands, but illness meant his debut opportunity was not possible.

The debut did eventually come on June 3 in a pre-Euros friendly against Ukraine and he was then rewarded with a spot in Germany’s 26-man squad for the Euros. However, his dream was shattered as just a few days before his nation’s tournament opener against Scotland, he was forced to pull out of the squad after suffering tonsilitis, with Dortmund’s Emre Can replacing him.
With Pavlovic yet to make a senior competitive appearance for Germany, the idea of Pavlovic representing Serbia remains a possibility, but the change of heart from Pavlovic to ditch the European giants in favour of representing his father’s nation would have to be a monumental one.
