Aston Villa Close to £50 Million Agreement with Everton for Amadou Onana

Personal Terms Agreed

David Ornstein reports that Aston Villa are in the process of finalising an agreement with Evertonfor the signing of Onana. The 22-year-old has already agreed personal terms with his prospective club, and he is prepared to sign a long-term contract.

The deal will be worth around £50 million – a significant fee for his services, but justified given the value of recent midfield transfers between Premier League clubs. The Belgian is keen to join up with Unai Emery ahead of next season, and it is believed that the club’s UEFA Champions League qualification was a key factor for him in this deal.

Onana is a player who has been linked with many top clubs in the past few transfer windows. In particular, Fabrizio Romano revealed exclusively to GiveMeSport that he was on Arsenal’s shortlist. The Gunners could be searching for a new midfielder following Albert Sambi Lokonga‘s departure and amid Thomas Partey’s fitness inconsistencies. Perhaps the Everton man could have been a reliable, league-proven solution. However, Aston Villa have moved quickly in the race and they look to be the favourites for this deal.

Aston Villa’s Busy Summer So Far

Villa has been very active in this window, shaking up the squad ahead of what will be a busy season for them. Having secured Champions League football, they will expect harder fixtures in midweek, and the squad must be prepared in the best way possible. So far, the Villans have signed Enzo Barrenechea, Samuel Iling-Junior, Ross Barkley, Ian Maatsen, Jaden Philogene and Lewis Dobbin. It’s been a hectic transfer window for them with so many incomings and they aren’t stopping yet.

Following the departure of Douglas Luiz in the player exchange deal with Juventus, Emery has a significant hole to fill in the midfield engine room. Onana could help solve this issue for Aston Villa: he is well-regarded for his defensive ability and acumen which will be of great use to the club’s out-of-possession structure.
