How Much Will Tottenham Receive From Hojbjerg’s Departure?
The Athletic’s Jay Harris has reported that the Lilywhites have struck an agreement with Marseille for the transfer of the Danish midfielder. Fabrizio Romano has given his ‘here we go’ for the deal and also reported that the “documents set to be signed” between the two teams to complete the transfer. Hojbjerg himself has also accepted Marseille’s terms after speaking with manager Roberto De Zerbi. Tottenham are finally able to sell the Danish midfielder after seeing him being linked with an exit for the last year or so.
Last year, the 28-year-old was reportedly a target for La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid and was keen on joining them. However, the Spanish side couldn’t agree on a fee with Spurs, which forced him to stay on for the 2023/24 season. Hojbjerg is now getting his transfer out of Tottenham and will look to become a key part of the Marseille squad and help them strongly challenge for the Ligue 1 title next season.
How Will Tottenham Replace Hojbjerg?
The Lilywhites had been quite proactive in strengthening their midfield well before agreeing on the sale of the experienced Danish midfielder. Spurs worked swiftly to sign promising young English midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds United in the summer and he’s expected to be a direct replacement for the departing Hojberg. Gray made 52 appearances for Leeds in the 2023/24 campaign and won the EFL Championship Young Player of the Season award.

Hojbjerg made 39 appearances for Postecoglou’s side last season but the majority of his performances were actually as a substitute. He couldn’t show enough technical prowess or goal threat to become an important part of the starting lineup and is being moved away from the club. Spurs have already offloaded the likes of Joe Rodon, Eric Dier, Tanguy Ndombele, and Japhet Tanganga from their squad this summer and Hojbjerg seems to be the latest one to depart.
