Arsenal kicked off their 2024/25 Premier League season with a commanding 2-0 win over Wolves to assert their intentions to challenge for the title from the get-go. However, Mikel Arteta’s decision to drop Jakub Kiwior from the matchday squad appears to have consequences for the defender.

Why Was He Left Out of Arsenal Squad?
Arteta went against naming the Polish defender in his matchday squad for the Wolves clash and he didn’t even get a place on the bench. Fabrizio Romano has reported that he was not omitted because of any injury problems and more because of the questions around the defender’s future at the Emirates Stadium.

The journalist adds that there is a “serious possibility” for Kiwior to leave the Gunners before the end of the 2024 summer window, but that there have been no concrete discussions held between any interested club with Arsenal for a possible transfer.
Romano claims that no particular club is in active negotiations with Arteta’s side for the Polish defender’s acquisition, despite the speculation around his potential departure for a few months now. The journalist also states that Kiwior would love to return to Italy after having made his breakthrough at Spezia.
What Went Wrong for Jakub Kiwior at Arsenal?
Even though he only joined Arsenal in the 2023 winter transfer window, it now appears that Kiwior might be offloaded without even spending two whole years with the Gunners. The possible reason why Arteta is open to letting the 23-year-old leave is because of the sheer number of options in his backline, especially with the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

Arsenal also have Jurrien Timber, who can play in a variety of roles in their backline. Kiwior was not able to perform to the high level of the Arsenal core defensive group (William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ben White) last season. He made 30 appearances for Arteta’s side in the 2023/24 campaign, mostly playing as a left-back. Even though he was hailed as “extraordinary” by Robert Lewandowski last year, the Polish defender has not exactly managed to stand out among the Arsenal defenders and that’s why they might be ready to let him go.
