FPL Tips: Three Aston Villa Players to Transfer in Ahead of Gameweek 2

FPL Tips: Three Aston Villa Players to Transfer in Ahead of Gameweek 2

Aston Villa began the new Premier League campaign with a victory in Saturday evening’s Claret clash at the London Stadium, with Amadou Onana heading home on debut before Jhon Durán stroked home a late winner as they beat West Ham United 2-1. They now face Arsenal at Villa Park. Here are three Aston Villa players to transfer in for FPL Gameweek 2.

Jhon Durán – £6 Million – Our Aston Villa FPL Gameweek 2 Pick

As alluded to, Durán was the opening weekend hero, snatching all three points for Villa in East London. He apologised to the away fans and indicated that he will be staying at the club having, ironically enough, been heavily linked with a move to West Ham all summer long.

This was the Colombian’s 50th appearance in Claret and Blue, marking the occasion with his ninth goal for the club. He did so during a 28-minute cameo, having replaced Ollie Watkins as a substitute. Six of those nine goals have come off the bench overall.

In fact, as noted by OptaJoe on Twitter, he averages a goal every 103 minutes in the Premier League, a minutes-per-goal ratio only bettered by a certain Erling Braut Haaland.

With Watkins lacking match-sharpness, having not featured at all during pre-season following his exploits at the European Championship, Durán will certainly see some more minutes here, even if again only as a substitute.

Right now, a mere 0.5% of FPL managers have Durán in their team and, with a dearth of strikers (particularly high-quality ones priced at £6 million) we think he’d be a shrewd edition; get on it before everyone else does!

Ian Maatsen – £5 Million

Onana marked his Villa debut with a goal last weekend, but we’re focussing on another new signing who made his maiden appearance for the club as a substitute in the capital.

Ian Maatsen came on as a late substitute, replacing Lucas Digne at left-back, having completed a £37.5 million move from Chelsea in June.

The Dutchman shone on loan at Borussia Dortmund during the second half of last season, racking up three goals and two assists in just 23 outings, emphasising that he is certainly an attacking left-back, which should suit Emery’s system.

Potentially in line to start this week, only 3.7% of FPL managers have Maatsen in their squad, but we think at £5 million he offers very good value.

Emi Martínez – £5 Million

If there’s anyone who will be ultra-motivated by the visit of Arsenal it’s goalkeeper Emi Martínez who, since departing the Gunners in 2020, has won four of eight encounters against them, including both last season, enjoying shutouts in both.

During the most recent campaign, with eight clean sheets in 34 appearances, Martínez racked up 115 points. He has averaged 141 points per campaign since making the move to the Midlands in 2020.

Also, during the summer, he enjoyed five shutouts and conceded only once across six outings as Argentina retained their Copa América title stateside, so Martínez will be full of confidence, hence why we think you should join his 13% of owners.
