Ivan Toney is Chelsea’s latest striker target as the Stamford Bridge side look to add a reliable No.9 to their squad.
Brentford’s Ivan Toney Wanted by Chelsea Amidst Saudi Interest
Blues Make First Contact for Brentford Man
This afternoon (August 27), Sky journalist Kaveh Solhekol broke the news that Chelsea have “made a move” to sign Toney, who looks to be on the move from Brentford before this week’s transfer deadline. Jason Burt of the Telegraph revealed that the Bees are after £50 million for their striker.
The 27-year-old has not featured in either of Brentford’s first two Premier League matchday squads, with rumours circling that he is set for a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli having agreed personal terms with the club, according to Ben Jacobs.
The Situation Surrounding Toney
Toney only recently returned to Brentford following an extended break after his Euro 2024 exploits with England, for whom he got the crucial assist for Harry Kane’s winning goal against Slovakia in the Round of 16.
Naturally, the cloud of his betting scandal still hangs over his head having only returned from his suspension back in January, before going on to score four league goals in the final few months of the 2023/24 campaign.
One thing that cannot be underestimated, though, is his reliability when playing regularly, with many teams taking note of his ability after he scored 20 league goals back in 2022/23 as Brentford finished 9th, two points off a Europa Conference League qualifying position.

With Tottenham having brought in Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth, eyebrows were raised as to who, if anyone would make an offer to bring Toney to their club. Chelsea have now seemingly made the speculation around his future very interesting, as they look to strike a deal to beat the mega-money lures of Saudi Arabia and keep him in the Premier League.
