Despite Romelu Lukaku going the opposite way, and Al Ahli switching their focus to the signing of Ivan Toney, Chelsea have failed to secure the signature of Osimhen. Whilst there were complications during deal negotiations with Napoli, the obstacle was convincing the player.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a “new proposal” was presented two hours ago, and yet there has been “no agreement” between the Nigerian and the West London club. Via WatchPlayback he explained that the club couldn’t offer close to his Napoli salary, and Osimhen didn’t want to cut it that much. Now, the “deal [is] completely off”.
A Huge Failure for Chelsea
Romano said it best: “I think Chelsea thought that maybe players could be tempted last minute if they had no other possibilities even if the salary wasn’t the best”. The Blues risked too much by leaving the deal until the last minute, and lost their biggest transfer target.

Now, they are left with Nicolas Jackson to lead the line for half a year, in a huge season in which securing European football is a must. The board knew this was a priority all summer, and spent it negotiating and trying to cut corners that weren’t there. They are set to have signed 12 players, three of which were for £30 million+, and yet no striker. Fans must be furious after two years of mediocre finishes, high spending, and no results.
