How Tottenham Have Lined Up Recently
Most recently sticking to a 4-3-3, the Lilywhites continue to reap the rewards from a more expansive style of play under ‘Angeball’.
Between the sticks, Guglielmo Vicario has kept Spurs in safe hands as Tottenham’s number one in his 42 appearances for the club so far.
In front of him remains a familiar defence from last season; Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie play as full-backs on either side of the formidable pairing of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. The back four have scored or set up three goals in their first two games, including an emphatic pitch-long run and assist from van de Ven.
In midfield, Postecoglou has tinkered in his first two games with a variety of personnel, both in his starting eleven and off the bench. James Maddison has featured in both games with his playmaking paying dividends in the form of two assists in the opening matches.
Rodrigo Bentancur was replaced by Yves Bissouma in the last game out due to injury – who scored his first-ever Spurs goal in some fashion against Everton.
Meanwhile, Pape Matar Sarr and Dejan Kulusevski have each made one start and one substitute appearance in midfield.
On the wings, Wilson Odobert made his first start last time out, partly owing to Solanke and Richarlison’s injuries, with Brennan Johnson starting both games on the opposite flank.
Son Heung-Min is Spurs’ sharpshooter, scoring two in his last two matches.

Tottenham’s Recent Form and Tactics
Unbeaten so far, Tottenham initially had a frustrating start to the season. Despite a dominant first half, Jamie Vardy crashed in an equaliser at the King Power Stadium which would have felt all too familiar for Spurs fans. But their thumping 4-0 home opener versus Everton demonstrated what Spurs can do when they finish their chances.
Home or away, Tottenham have not been shy to attack straight from kick-off, dominate possession and try to take control of the game this season. It would be refreshing to see them continue to do this, especially considering their last two capitulations at St James’ Park.

Tottenham Injuries and Suspensions to Consider
Spurs have already been struck by injuries so early into the campaign. Their strike force has been particularly affected with Dominic Solanke and Richarlison ruled out.
Ange Postecoglou said: “Main ones [injuries] are Dom Solanke is close but I think we’ll err on the side of caution with the international break. Richy pulled up sore. I think there’s a muscle injury there and we’re getting some more information, but he is out.”
The Spurs boss was quick to back Richarlison despite his injury struggles. Postecoglou said: “He’s such a handful. Even last week that 20 minutes he played, you can see the options he gives us in that position.”
But there is some good news as Postecoglou gave an update on Rodrigo Bentancur, who has “trained and most importantly he feels good”.
