Thomas Müller has managed to make 710 appearances for Bayern Munich. That in itself is an extraordinary accomplishment. He is now the club’s all-time appearance leader, and what he helped the team achieve in arguably its most successful era in history is on an entirely different level. Since his 2008 first-team debut, Müller has won an unbelievable amount in the red jersey of the Bavarians. In this piece, Last Word on Football looks back at his five greatest matches for the team.
The Five Greatest Thomas Müller Matches
A Top-Notch Performance Against a Bitter Rival
On September 12, 2009, Müller came on at halftime against Borussia Dortmund, with the result even at 1-1. He ended up scoring his first two Bundesliga goals and thus contributing to the 5-1 win.

The victory put Bayern three points clear of second-placed Schalke 04 with one round to go in the season. The Munich club also had a far superior goal difference compared to Schalke, meaning this was essentially a title win.
The Game of a Lifetime
Another one of the five greatest Müller matches has to be the legendary 4-0 win against Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal on April 23, 2013. There, he contributed two goals and one assist. The Bavarians went on to win the second leg 3-0 and defeat Dortmund in the final to ultimately lift the trophy.
A Fantastic Goal
Scoring a goal in a cup final is always special. Scoring it in added time of extra- time to defeat your biggest national rival with a run over half the pitch is unforgettable. Müller’s strike that made it 2-0 against Dortmund in the 2014 German Cup final on May 17 of that year was certainly one of, if not the biggest goal of his career.
Thomas Müller’s Most Productive Match
Attacking players for the most part are judged by how many goals they score and how many assists they contribute. During the match against Hamburger SV on February 14, 2015, Bayern’s number 25 did more of that than in any other game of his career so far. He scored twice and added three assists for Bayern’s 8-0 victory that day.
