The journalist notes that Liverpool’s management aims to hold negotiations with the defender over key elements like their long-term project under Slot, the possible length of a new contract for the Dutchman as well as potential salary.

Romano insists that these are “crucial points” be hashed out between the two parties. He also states that Van Dijk has not held any talks with another club over a potential transfer in 2025 and is fully focused on achieving something special under the new head coach.

What Did Arne Slot Say About Van Dijk’s Contract Situation?

The new Liverpool boss was recently asked about a potential update on the futures of players like Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold as their existing contracts expire at the end of June 2025. He simply responded: “Boring answer again… but we don’t talk about contracts here. Not a distraction, I am fully focused on the team to work with them to get the best possible out of them.”

The Dutch defender stated earlier this season that he has not received a contract offer from the team yet. Despite that, he’s started the campaign strongly to help Liverpool win all three of their Premier League matches to date. The 33-year-old, who was hailed for his “unbelievable” contribution to their past success by Tottenham Hotspur man Micky van de Ven last season, has helped the Reds keep three clean sheets and concede zero goals in their three league outings so far.
