Manchester United have had a bit of a wobbly start to the 2024/25 season as they have only won three of their five Premier League matches so far. They have had their share of injury problems and it looks like there is no good news on the potential return of defender Luke Shaw.

What Did Erik ten Hag Say About Shaw?

The English full-back has not played any matches for the Red Devils since he was injured in their 2-1 win over Luton Town in February 2024. Even though he played for England in the Euro 2024 final, Shaw picked up a new knock in United’s pre-season training session and has been on the road to recovery ever since.

Erik ten Hag was recently asked if he expects the Englishman to make a return to action before the upcoming International break during the second week of October. He answered: “I can’t say for certain.The plan is to be back before [the October international break], but I can’t be 100 per cent sure. It could be shortly after the break.”

At this point, it doesn’t appear that Shaw is going to return until at least after the October international window. He also faces stiff competition for his spot at left-back due to the impressive performances of Diogo Dalot and new signing Noussair Mazraoui in the full-back positions.

Which Other Injuries Are United Dealing With?

Ten Hag was fortunate to see his first-choice centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund make a return from injury in the recent 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace, while Mason Mount was also on the bench. The Red Devils have also confirmed that left-back Tyrell Malacia is now back in first-team training after missing the entirety of the 2024/25 season due to injury.
