Newcastle continue their Premier League season as they host AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup this Tuesday, October 1 at 7:45 PM BST. The Magpies will hope to continue their momentum as they chase their first trophy in 69 years. Here is our Newcastle United predicted lineup.
Newcastle United Predicted Lineup for EFL Cup Clash with Wimbledon
How Newcastle Have Lined Up Recently
Newcastle made three changes from their 1-1 draw against Manchester City last Saturday. Alexander Isak missed the match with a toe injury but could return tonight. Sandro Tonali also bagged his first start of the season as he built up his fitness after a long time out of action.

Lloyd Kelly got the nod over Lewis Hall at left-back as the two continue to rotate. It is anyone’s guess who will start as Eddie Howe is willing to give both a decent chance to fight for their place in the starting lineup.
Harvey Barnes is enjoying an extended spell in the starting lineup and is performing well. However, Howe is likely to rotate for the EFL Cup, as he did in the previous round against Nottingham Forest
Newcastle’s Recent Form and Tactics
Newcastle earned an impressive point at home against the league champions, leaving them seventh in the table. They are very much in the fight for Europe and are beginning to look more settled and cohesive in matches.
Anthony Gordon played as the central forward in Isak’s absence and performed well, winning a penalty which he converted. Fans also got to see Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes starting together which could be an indication of the Magpies’ long-term tactics.

However, expect to see a very different side in the EFL Cup. The Magpies have the depth to rotate and will be looking to progress in this postponed fixture.
Newcastle Injuries and Suspensions to Consider
Both Tonali and Kieran Trippier picked up knocks against City and had to be replaced late on. According to Howe, both face late fitness tests and, given that it is a cup match, are highly unlikely to start.
Isak is “being assessed on a daily basis” but is unavailable tonight, and likely out until after the international break. Matt Targett is still out with eczema.
Jamal Lascelles, Sven Botman, Callum Wilson and Lewis Miley are all out with long-term injuries. The first two are out until 2025, but the latter two could return after the international break
