Barcelona have had an amazing start under new head coach Hansi Flick and are comfortably sitting on top of the La Liga table after winning nine out of their ten La Liga matches in the 2024/25 season. It also looks like they’re doing good work off the pitch; there is a positive update on Fermin Lopez’s contract extension.

Details of Fermin Lopez’s New Deal

The journalist adds that the midfielder will also be getting an increase in his salary (currently rumoured to be just over £10,000-a-week) and that Barcelona have also been able to agree on a new release clause in the contract. It’s further stated that the extension should be official soon after the 21-year-old midfielder returned from injury in his side’s dominant 5-1 win over Sevilla in their previous La Liga game.

Which Other Barcelona Players Are In Line for Contract Talks?

Barcelona had announced the contract extension for young midfielder Marc Bernal earlier this season after he suffered an awful knee injury in the win over Rayo Vallecano in August (2024). Romano also adds that after sealing the agreement for Fermin’s deal, the La Liga heavyweights are also planning to seal agreements on new contracts for midfielders Pedri and Gavi.

He states that the club are also looking to set up contract extension talks with Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong. That is because both the players’ current deals expire at the end of June, 2026 and the club definitely don’t want to lose them for free that year. The club should be glad to have tied down Fermin to a new long-term deal that will keep him at the club for many years after watching his breakthrough over the last year. The Spaniard, who was hailed as a “very dynamic” midfielder by Spain boss Luis de la Fuente recently, scored 11 goals in 41 appearances for Barcelona last season.
