Chelsea Confirmed Lineup vs Newcastle for Carabao Cup Clash

Chelsea Team News

Filip Jorgensen comes in as expected to play in goals. He is shielded by a back four of Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, and Marc Cucurella. Enzo Fernandez is paired with Renato Veiga in a new-look defensive midfield pairing.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is set to play, presumably as one of the attacking four but there’s some doubt as to where he’ll start. Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, and  Christopher Nkunku are the other attackers.

There’s a strong bench for this one featuring Levi Colwill, Ben Chilwell, Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Marc Guiu. Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom are the substitute goalkeepers as Robert Sanchez is left out entirely.

Chelsea Lineup: Jorgensen, Cucurella, Badiashile, Tosin, Disasi, Fernandez, Veiga, Dewsbury-Hall, Felix, Mudryk, Nkunku

Notable Changes

Maresca threw some surprises with Fernandez, Veiga, and Dewsbury-Hall all starting in midfield. The configuration of the attacking four will be interesting to see unless there’s a shift to a permanent 4-3-3 for this one with Felix and Mudryk occupying the wide areas.

Disasi isn’t a natural right-back so the back four will most likely operate as a fluid back-three with Cucurella given license to move up.
