FTN: Latest on Mexico’s Hirving Lozano, Plus Martins, Sturridge and Chelsea Updates
Hirving Lozano: a Wanted Man
The Mexico native joined PSV Eindhoven last summer from Pachuca. After just one season in the Netherlands, Lozano already has 17 goals and eight assists to his name. Not to mention an Eredivisie title.
Now, with former PSV executive Marcel Brands named the new Everton director of football, Hirving Lozano could be on the move again. The Liverpool Echo reports Brands is free to do business with his former club and will make Lozano a priority.
The player will not make a decision until after the World Cup, however, where he played the hero in Mexico’s 1-0 win over Germany.
Gelson Martins on the Move
Sporting Lisbon are having a terrible summer. After losing the Portuguese Cup final, the team is in danger of losing all its best players in the wake of a fan attack.
Among the players to cancel their contracts due to the incident is highly-rated 23-year-old winger Gelson Martins. The Portuguese international is on duty with his native country at the World Cup. However, that hasn’t stopped him from being linked with a plethora of clubs.
The newest name on that list is Everton, who recently named Marco Silva as manager. Silva, and director of football Marcel Brands, are making Martins’ signature among their top priorities. The Toffees face competition from the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal.
Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge
The Reds have no shortage of talent in their current strike force. With the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino delighting Anfield crowds, it is no surprise that Daniel Sturridge finds himself surplus to requirement.
Liverpool have reportedly slapped a £15 million price tag on the player and will listen to offers. Sevilla have reignited their interest in Sturridge, with Fenerbache among other known admirers.
The English striker still has one year left on his Anfield deal. He spent the final half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion but failed to make an impact.
New Look Chelsea?
Roman Abramovich has not yet fired Antonio Conte. However, that doesn’t mean the Italian’s job is safe. The Evening Standard reports that Chelsea have already agreed terms with Maurizio Sarri.
While they have yet to agree a compensation package for Napoli, not to mention terminate Conte’s contract, the Blues are already picking out Sarri’s new coaching staff.
Former Chelsea man Gianfranco Zola will apparently fly into London to hold talks with the club. He was working the World Cup for South African television, but cut his deployment short in order to make the meeting. Zola would become Sarri’s number two.
If the deal is successful, Chelsea would make a move for Aleksandr Golovin. Sarri is a long-time admirer of the Russian international, who helped his side to a 5-0 thrashing of Saudi Arabia in the tournament opener.
