REPORT: Manchester United Defender Max Taylor in Talks With MK Dons Over Loan Move

Max Taylor

League One side MK Dons are in talks with Manchester United’s 20-year-old defender Max Taylor over a loan move, according to Simon Jones of Mail Online. Taylor was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2018 but recovered last year before going on to earn his first call-up to the Red Devils’ senior side for their Europa League tie against Astana. Following his recovery, though, and a season with the U23 squad, Taylor is keen to get some regular first-team minutes.

Dons Need Defensive Players

MK Dons have already allowed two defenders to leave this summer in Jordan Moore-Taylor and Joe Walsh, who joined Forest Green Rovers and Lincoln City respectively. Richard Keogh has been brought in but is not expected to be fit until much later in the season, and manager Russell Martin also suggested in an interview today, following the Dons’ 2-2 draw with Cambridge United in a pre-season friendly, that captain Dean Lewington could feature more regularly at centre-back than at left-back.

This leaves the Dons light in the centre-back department, particularly if Lewington remains at left-back and Callum Brittain does not sign a new contract, which would require George Williams and Regan Poole to operate at right-back.

However, a chance to have regular minutes is definitely something MK Dons can supply for Taylor. He will add competition to the defensive ranks and could be another success story of young players plying their trade at the club.

Demitri Mitchell Could Also Be Heading South

Elsewhere in Jones’ report, he says that former United left-back Demitri Mitchell is attracting interest from the Dons’ near neighbours, Luton Town.

The 23-year old is currently a free agent and has been training with Sunderland to keep up his fitness.
