Callum Brittain and Joe Mason Re-Sign for MK Dons

Callum Brittain

Defender Callum Brittain and striker Joe Mason have both re-signed for League One side MK Dons. Brittain was out of contract at the end of last season and was free to explore other options. Mason was also out of contract and the pair now join Ben Gladwin and Laurie Walker in re-joining for the coming season.

Brittain’s Return Further Bolsters Defence

The defence was one of the key areas that Russell Martin needed to solve this summer. The additions of Richard Keogh and Warren O’Hora at centre-back have been well received, as has the signing of Daniel Harvie, who has the ability to play anywhere down the left-hand side.

Based on the formation played in their last few friendly matches, it seems the Dons are looking to go with three central defenders with wing-backs. Harvie can play the role on the left, and Brittain re-signing means that the right side is now covered too.

Both will be key players next season as they will be tasked with providing nearly all of the width to MK Dons’ play as well as retaining their defensive duties. Brittain, though, is well-versed in the role having played there under Paul Tisdale.

Even if Martin does stick to the four-man defence he used in his time in charge last season, Brittain provides adequate competition for both George Williams and Regan Poole in that position.

Mason Adds Depth Up Front

Injury massively disrupted Joe Mason’s season last time out. However, when he recovered and did come into the team, he went through a decent scoring patch which led to general disappointment when it was looking like he would not be staying with the club.

With Carlton Morris and Rhys Healey occupying the starting spots and Sam Nombe in reserve too, Mason’s return is purely to add depth to the squad’s forward line. However, if he can remain fit for the season and chip in a handful of goals, bringing him back will prove to be decent business.
