Dayot Upamecano Expected to Leave RB Leipzig in the Summer

Upamecano Leipzig summer

With a release clause of just £42 million, Dayot Upamecano is expected to leave RB Leipzig this summer- according to Fabrizio Romano– with many clubs interested.

Leipzig, however, have reportedly made it clear that they are not open to selling the central defender in this month’s window.

Manchester United Among Clubs Interested

Romano also stated that Manchester United are one of the several clubs interested in Upamecano, but Leipzig would only accept an offer above the release clause this month.

The Leipzig defender will be in high demand come the summer with his talents clear for all to see. This season, Upamecano has played a crucial role in his side’s pursuit of the Bundesliga title- combining with the rest of the team to conceded 12 goals in 15 games.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side boasts the best defensive record in the league and sit second, just one point away from leaders Bayern Munich. This season, more than ever, the Bundesliga is showing signs of its competitive nature which could see the end of Bayern dominance.

It is looking increasingly likely that Upamecano will remain a Leipzig player this month.

Leipzig Following Dortmund Transfer Trend

With the sale of Timo Werner last summer and the sale of Upamecano expected this summer, RB Leipzig are beginning to follow the Borussia Dortmund transfer trend.

That trend, of course, sees young talent take first-team opportunities to improve to the world-class status before leaving to make the club profit. Dortmund have done it with the likes of Lewandowski, Mario Gotze and Christian Pulisic in the past.

Now, Leipzig seem to be following in their footsteps with Upamecano expected to leave this summer- making the club profit in the process. Perhaps it is a growing trend in the Bundesliga as a whole, as many clubs look to keep up on a financial level with Europe’s best.
