Defender Joe Martin has returned to Stevenage on a free transfer from Northampton Town.
Martin arrives for a second spell and reunites with Stevenage manager Alex Revell. The two were team-mates during Martin’s first spell with the club.
The experienced defender arrives as Stevenage’s fifth signing as Revell looks to strengthen his squad.
Joe Martin Re-Joins Stevenage on a Free Transfer from Northampton Town
50 Appearances in His First Spell
The full-back returns to help Stevenage avoid relegation. Alex Revell’s side are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference, although they have played two games fewer than Grimsby Town and Southend United.
Revell will be hoping Martin’s experience can help Stevenage avoid relegation. Martin has played for several clubs in his career including Blackpool, Gillingham, Millwall and most recently Northampton Town. His spell with the Cobblers was hugely successful, as he helped Keith Curle’s side secure promotion to League One.
However, his appearances this season have been limited, with Martin making just six in League One. His minutes total to just 411, which is not what he wants at this stage of his career.
He returns to a club he knows well. Martin was a key player during his first spell with Stevenage between 2017 and 2019, making over 50 appearances for the club.
Martin is available to make his debut in Stevenage’s crucial clash with Grimsby Town tomorrow in what is a must win for both sides in a tight relegation battle.
Alex Revell Pleased to Bring in His Former Team-mate
Speaking to the Stevenage website about his new signing, Revell said: “I am delighted to bring Joe back to the Club.
“His experience, quality and set-piece prowess will help make him an extremely valuable addition to the squad.
“In addition to his technical strengths, during the brief time I played with Joe, it was obvious what a positive influence he was on the rest of the squad, and what a superb professional he is.”
