Bristol City secured their first Women’s Super League victory of the season on January 30 with a 3-0 win over fellow strugglers Brighton & Hove Albion, in a big bottom-of-the-table clash at Twerton Park.
That was the highlight of a weekend which also saw the top teams also picking up three points.

Ebony Salmon’s brace and a superb looping strike from Yana Daniels gave the Vixens a much-needed first win of the season to move within two points of West Ham United and Aston Villa in tenth and 11th positions respectively, albeit having played one more game than both clubs.
The result drags Brighton back into the relegation picture with nine points from 13 games, having played one more game than City.
Chelsea Extend Their Women’s Super League Unbeaten Run
There were also some big results at the top end of the table, as league leaders Chelsea extended their record unbeaten run in the Women’s Super League to 33 games with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
Melanie Leupolz scored a brace, which included a penalty and a stunning long-range strike, while Sam Kerr’s header and an Abbie McManus own goal sealed a resounding win.
Wins for Both Manchester Clubs
Manchester United kept pace with Chelsea at the top of the table with a hard-fought 2-0 win away at Everton, thanks to goals from Ella Toone and Christen Press.
The result leaves United in second place with 32 points and only behind the Blues on goal difference, but Casey Stoney’s side have played one game more than their title rivals.
Manchester City proved they are still firmly in the race for top spot with a commanding 4-0 win of their own over West Ham United.
A goal each from Caroline Weir, Georgia Stanway, Ellen White and Rose Lavelle secured all three points for City, in a result that leaves them third and five points adrift of Chelsea.
Aston Villa Against Arsenal Postponed
One game fell victim to the weather, as a waterlogged pitch at the Banks’ Stadium saw Aston Villa’s encounter with Arsenal postponed.
The next round of Women’s Super League fixtures takes place on February 6 and 7, with arguably the two most eye-catching games seeing Arsenal host Man City, while Bristol City visit West Ham – the latter game having big ramifications in the battle for survival.
