Borussia Dortmund CEO Has Say on Erling Haaland’s Future

Haaland’s Future

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is one of the hottest properties in world football at the moment. There is no end to the clubs lining up to try and lure him away from the Bundesliga this summer, with the belief that he can fire any respective club to potential glory. Now, the Borussia Dortmund CEO has had his say on Erling Haaland’s future.

Erling Haaland’s Future Could Be at Borussia Dortmund for the Short-Term

Dortmund Friendly With Erling Haaland Agent Mino Raiola

However, reports from Fabrizio Romano today claim that the club’s current CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, believes the player will stay in Germany next season. The CEO said: “I’ve known Raiola for a long time and get along well with him.

“It’s no problem for us. Erling Haaland will remain a Borussia Dortmund player next year.”

It’s hard to believe that he’s still only 20-years old. The forward just seems to continue to go from strength-to-strength every season, with no signs of slowing down. Any thoughts of him being a one season wonder have long been quashed and he’s undoubtedly in the top five strikers in Europe right now – if not the best.

Erling Haaland Has Sensational Goal Return for Dortmund

In 25 starts so far this season, the player has a ridiculous return of 25 goals and five assists. His current rate is a goal a game. If you take into account both his goals and assists record, it currently stands at 1.21 per game.

In just two seasons for Dortmund, he’s already bagged 38 goals and it’s hard to believe he remains so young.

It’s no wonder some of the best teams in the world are chasing his signature, as the player looks like he could seemingly lead any forward line for a long time. Erling Haaland’s future is certainly not set in stone.

Dortmund Have Struggled in Bundesliga

The issue is perhaps the rest of his club and their current form. Despite his goalscoring exploits – and the fact the side have a relatively young team, with bags of potential – right now they aren’t looking like a solid challenger to the Bundesliga title.

They are currently sat in fifth place in the table, 16 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. Their current finish would mean they only qualify for the Europa League – and with plenty of Champions League challenging teams chasing his signature, why wouldn’t Haaland consider a move to a team where he can challenge for higher honours?

However, it looks like Borussia themselves are confident of keeping the striker despite all of the interest.

The player is currently managed by his agent Mino Raiola, who has been touting his name for a potential move away this summer. However, the CEO has now spoken out and believes that their relationship with the agent will mean Haaland’s future will be in Germany.

Haaland’s Short-Term Future Could See Him Continue to Lead Line for Dortmund

If he did stay in Germany, it would be a coup for Dortmund to keep him for even another season. It would go a long way to helping them challenge more readily for the league title in the next campaign and potentially go further in Europe.

Without the player, their goal haul would be significantly reduced – and who knows where in the table they would be without him.

Therefore, this news would be a huge boost to Dortmund fans. Less so to any team who wanted him to spearhead their attack next season.
