Manchester City Prepare Bid for Jack Grealish

Manchester City are preparing to make a bid for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic. Aston Villa are thought to be holding out for £100 million for their captain, who has been at the club since the age of six. Grealish is currently on international duty with England at Euro 2020, and provided an assist for Raheem Sterling in the 1-0 win over Czech Republic.

Manchester City to Fork Out £100 Million for Grealish

It has also been reported by ESPN that Man City will need to pay £100 million to prize Grealish from Villa Park this summer. It looks set to be another big summer of spending for Man City. They have already made contact with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential deal with Harry Kane. £100 million is also the fee being discussed, in addition to several players going to Tottenham as part of the deal.

Jack Grealish has been the standout performer for Aston Villa since they returned to the Premier League in 2019. So it should come as no surprise that England’s top clubs are pursuing him. Manchester City are in pole position to secure his signature this summer.

Last season, Grealish scored six goals and provided ten assists, as Villa finished 11th in the Premier League. His contribution goes far beyond goals and assists though. He was fouled on average 4.2 times per game, far more than any other player in the league. He also completed the fourth most dribbles per game, and the second most key passes per game, highlighting his influence on the pitch.

Villa Have Opened Talks Over New Contract

In light of the news that Man City are interested in Grealish, it has also emerged that, as of last week, Villa have opened talks over a new contract for their captain, as reported by Rob Dorsett. He reports that Villa want to build a team around Grealish, perhaps emphasised by their recent acquisition of Emi Buendia.

Dorsett also claims that Man City will wait until after the Euros to submit a formal bid for Grealish. Fans were delighted to see Grealish finally start in their third group game against Czech Republic. He provided the assist for the game’s only goal. As a result, he has put himself in contention to start the Round of 16 tie against Germany.

Grealish has been a loyal servant to his boyhood club, despite numerous transfer rumours over the years. Is it time for him to finally move on?
