Women’s Football Transfer News: Aston Villa Arrivals, Nikita Parris and More
Villa Sign Mayling and Boye-Hlorkah
Aston Villa Women have added Sarah Mayling and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah to their squad this summer. Mayling, 24, is a versatile player who can play across the right-hand side. She joins from midlands rivals, Birmingham City. A former Villa player, she joins up with Carla Ward, who was also her manager at Birmingham. Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, a pacey attacker, has joined on a two-year deal. The 25-year-old progressed through the ranks at Everton before making this move.
Earlier, Villa had signed midfielder Remi Allen, 30, from FA Women’s Championship winners Leicester City and Alisha Lehmann from West Ham United. This comes on the back of a season of upheaval. Stine Larsen joins a list of departees that includes Amy West and Emma Follis. Sporting Director Eniola Aluko also departed to take up a similar role at Angel City FC.
Parris Returns to English Women’s Football With Arsenal
Nikita Parris is back in the WSL, signing for the 2018/19 champions Arsenal. The former Manchester City forward held the record for most WSL goals with 49, until that was broken by Vivianne Miedema – who she’ll play with this season – and Ellen White.
Parris joined women’s football giants Lyon in 2019. She won the French league and cup, as well as the 2019/20 Women’s Champions League title. Her game time has been more due to the long-term injury suffered by Ada Hegerberg. Lyon failed to win the league or in Europe this season, and they are in a state of upheaval, changing manager and making a raft of new signings. Parris is one of those who has exited.
Bayer Munich Sign Sofia Jakobsson
Bayern Munich have signed the Sweden international Sofia Jakobsson from Real Madrid. Jakobsson, a former Chelsea and Montpellier player, scored eight times for Real Madrid last season. The 31-year-old attacker is an experienced player with over 100 international caps.
Jakobsson has expressed her delight at the transfer, and Bayern have got a very good player on a free transfer.
Pauline Peyraud-Magnin Moves to Juventus
French international goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin has joined Juventus. She was at Arsenal between 2018 and 2020, before joining Atletico Madrid last summer.
The 29-year-old is a former Lyon player, where she won the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2017/18 before joining the Gunners. The experienced goalkeeper will now play in Italy with Juventus, where she will wear the number 16 shirt.
