Greg O’Keeffe of The Athletic has reported that Everton forward Bernard is heading for the exit door with a move to the United Arab Emirates and Sharjah seeming his most likely destination.
Everton Forward Bernard On Verge of UAE Move
Removal of Bernard Wage Bill
O’Keeffe has reported that the news from the UAE is that both Everton and Sharjah have already discussed the players’ transfer and everything is now agreed and in place for the forward to leave Goodison Park, which will be a relief for the Merseyside club to get his wages off the bill.
The Brazilian earns a reported £120k per week making him one of the clubs’ top earners alongside defenders Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne.
Despite his huge salary, he has only scored five goals and assisted a further five in three years at Everton, which is nowhere near enough to justify such a high salary and the board are keen to get a deal for his transfer away from the club completed ahead of the new season.
At times, he has been referred to as being too lightweight and his departure will be of little concern to the fans.
Rafa Benitez Will Use Funds as Rebuild Continues
New Everton boss Benitez has already added the likes of Andros Townsend and Demerai Gray to his squad as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for the top four in the 2021/22 Premier League season and funds from the sale of Bernard will allow him to strengthen further.
Benitez is working alongside director Marcel Brands on transfers and saving £6.2 million per year will be a boost to those efforts. It looks set to be another season full of promise for the Toffees as they battle it out for a place in the European spots.
