Ajax boss Erik ten Hag could still stay in Amsterdam past the end of this season, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 51-year-old has earned plenty of plaudits recently for his style of play and success with the Dutch giants, but with such widespread praise has also come interest from Europe’s very best clubs, and Manchester United are reportedly very keen to bring Ten Hag to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

An Accomplished Manager Whose Future is Unknown
Erik ten Hag has been very successful since he got his big move to Ajax in 2018.
The head coach was not particularly reputable before joining De Joden. His most esteemed club beforehand was mid-table Eredivisie side Utrecht, with whom he achieved a joint-record highest ever league finish of fourth place.
As Ajax boss, Ten Hag has won the Eredivisie in each of his two full seasons. This campaign, however, the league is looking close, with PSV one point ahead of the Amsterdam-based club after 18 games.
The Dutchman also managed to put together a fantastic run in the Champions League in his first full campaign at the Johan Cruijff Arena. Ajax reached, and were on the cusp of passing, the semi-finals, but a miraculous comeback from Tottenham Hotspur set up a final between the London side and eventual winners Liverpool.
This season, Ten Hag has so far guided his team to the round of 16 of Europe’s most reputable club competition, where they will face Portuguese outfit Benfica. Another impressive season deep in the Champions League could certainly be a possibility for Ajax.
Ten Hag Could Stay as Other Members of Staff Receive Contract Renewals
After director of football Marc Overmars’ contract in Amsterdam was renewed, Ten Hag was asked about his future with Ajax: “It’s great that Marc Overmars has extended his contract, there’s so much confidence in him. New deal for me? I still have a contract until 2023”.
In a piece of very positive news for Ajax fans, Overmars’ response to the question of Ten Hag staying was: “This could be possible”.
