Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy Out For Eight Weeks

Jamie Vardy

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is set to be out for eight weeks after suffering a hamstring injury.

The 35-year-old complained of an issue during Leicester’s Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Liverpool last month. Vardy won’t need an operation, but the injury is worse than first feared.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers said: “Jamie will be out for a number of weeks. It’s been unfortunate for him but we’re looking at up to eight weeks.

“His is the higher end of his hamstring. You are looking into March for Jamie. He doesn’t need an operation and that was the only good news from it.”

Injuries Continue to Mount Up For Brendan Rodgers’ Side

The injury to Jamie Vardy is another headache that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers could do without. It leaves them without a recognised striker who is fit and available.

Patson Daka is currently injured, while Kelechi Iheanacho is with the Nigeria squad at the African Cup of Nations. Midfielders Harvey Barnes or Ayoze Perez are expected to deputise as a striker against Watford in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Centre-back Johnny Evans is also set to be sidelined until April. The Northern Irish international had an operation to solve his hamstring problem after limping off against Newcastle United in December. They will also be missing Turkish international Caglar Soyuncu for the Watford game. He is expected to be available for the league match against Burnley on 15 January.

Luke Thomas and Boubakary Soumare are among the other players out injured. Meanwhile, the FA Cup holders will be without Daniel Amartey, Papy Mendy, and Wilfred Ndidi who are all at AFCON.

Overall, the Foxes could have just eight outfield first-team players available as they begin the defence of their FA Cup crown on Saturday.
