Manchester United Eyeing Multiple Barcelona Players

Manchester United have met with Barcelona multiple times and not all discussions have been about Frenkie de Jong, according to Andy Mitten.

It’s very clear that United are interested in the Dutchman as their main target this summer, but are there other Barcelona players that Erik Ten Hag wants to add to his squad?

Where Will De Jong End Up?

There may have been some preliminary talks between United and Barcelona about other players, but the priority remains De Jong. Manchester United are working hard on the deal and seem not to have been put off by the complexity of it so far.

De Jong to United makes much more sense for the two clubs involved than the player. Barcelona need an injection of cash to fund their own transfer business and the 25-year-old is arguably their most saleable asset. United are in dire need of improved quality for their midfield and new manager Ten Hag hopes to link up with a player he’s worked with in the past.

The player, on the other hand, is in no rush to make a decision. He’s gone on record saying that Barcelona is the biggest club in the world, and he used to holiday in Catalonia as a child and take tours of the Nou Camp.

At this stage, United may well be to closing in on the deal. It’s also not clear at the moment what other Barcelona players they have discussed, so could there be a surprise on the cards?

What Other Moves Are United Making?

United’s transfer news has been hotting up in recent days, with reports flying around that Ajax winger Antony will soon be making his way to Old Trafford. There’s also reported interest in another Ajax player, Edson Alvarez, who could be an alternative to De Jong as the midfield anchor.

With Dean Henderson potentially on his way out for more first-team football, United are looking at their options as a backup to David de Gea. Daniel Bachmann is the player that looks most likely at the moment and would cost around £4 million from Watford.
