Champions League Winner to Leave Paris Saint-Germain

No Official Bids for the Dutch International Yet

Georginio Wijnaldum’s time at Paris Saint-Germain has come to an end. Quite an underwhelming stint, as the only title the Dutchman won was Ligue 1, which PSG almost monopolises, while Champions League glory still eludes the club.

However, as Wijnaldum won such a title with Liverpool in 2019, he’s probably not as devastated as many of his now-former teammates in Paris. AS Roma are said to be really interested in the 31-year-old, but an official bid is yet to be made.

Has Won Almost Everything Imaginable With Liverpool

Georginio Wijnaldum’s senior career began at Feyenoord, where he became their youngest-ever first-team player at the age of 16. In 2011, aged 20, Wijnaldum joined PSV Eindhoven. Around this time the Dutchman made his debut for the senior national team, scoring his first international goal in an 11-0 thrashing of San Marino.

Following Wijnaldum’s four seasons with PSV, he left the Eredivisie for the first time to join Newcastle United in England. Despite notably scoring against Brazil at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, it was at Newcastle where the Dutchman first had eyes on him in a different way than before, garnering interest from Liverpool. The rest is history.

Wijnaldum won essentially everything imaginable with the club and became a hero by scoring a superb header in Liverpool’s dramatic Champions League comeback against Barcelona. That, along with many other things, has cemented his legacy at the club.
