AS Roma is interested in Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. Di Marzio reports that AC Milan are also interested, but Roma may hold the upper hand due to their manager. Bailly was Jose Mourinho’s first signing with the Red Devils, so there’s already a connection in place between the centre-back and the manager.

AS Roma Are Interested in Manchester United Defender Eric Bailly
The Red Devils’ Defence
United already have a number of options at centre-back. Three of the main options are Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof. Although the Red Devils’ defence was disappointing last season, it may be difficult to displace high-paid defenders. Other options include veteran Phil Jones and younger players such as Axel Tuanzebe and Teden Mengi. United also agreed on a deal for Lisandro Martinez.

Perhaps Bailly is surpluse to requirements. His appearances for United have been very low in recent seasons even though he’s been a part of the club since 2016.

The Possible Fit With Roma
Roma are returning to Serie A relevancy under Mourinho. The manager’s track record speaks for itself, and it goes without saying that he wants to manage the best team possible. Roma can use stronger reinforcement in their defence. The current centre-back options include Chris Smalling, Gianluca Mancini, Roger Ibanez, and Marash Kumbulla. Although this is solid depth, Roma are looking to compete in Europe this next season while also returning to the Champions League. Talent is needed, and the club is busy on that front.

Although Bailly hasn’t seen much time on the pitch recently, he still carries a high profile. Mourinho is known for sticking with certain players, so Roma faithful can remain confident in the manager’s decisions.
