Leicester City Midfielder Joins Championship Club on Loan

Leicester City Midfielder

Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury will be playing in the Championship for the 2022/23 season, as he joins Watford on a season-long loan. The loan includes an option to buy if The Hornets want to make the deal permanent.

It seems that all of the headlines surrounding Leicester during this summer are mostly related to the potential sale of their key players. So far the Foxes have managed to weather the storm, with only goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel departing the first team squad so far. That hasn’t stopped manager Brendan Rodgers from taking precautionary measures to stave off interest by declaring key duo, James Maddison and Wesley Fofana, not for sale”.

Leicester City Midfielder Departs the King Power

Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury hasn’t had regular football at any point with the club. Early on in his time there, he went on loan to Burton Albion. Since then, he has continued to be kept waiting in the wings with opportunities being hard to come by. Even with the issues that the Foxes are currently experiencing, there is seemingly no route into the first team for Choudhury.

In football terms, Choudhury isn’t considered to be a youngster anymore. At 24, his most profitable season was in 2019/20 in which he made 20 appearances in the Premier League. Only 10 of these were starts and so it came out at under 900 minutes of action. This move away from Leicester is a great opportunity for him to continue showcasing his ability.

In the middle of the park now, there are still a fair few options available. The emergence of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has given Rodgers another option in the central midfield alongside Wilfred Ndidi and Youri Tielemans. However, with Tielemans future up in the air, it may not be long before Leicester will need more help in midfield. Midfield duo, Nampalys Mendy and Boubakary Soumare, both face uncertain futures at the club, with the former out of contract in the summer and the latter linked with a move away after only joining in the summer of 2021.

Choudhury’s Prospects of Regular Football With Watford

From one team in transition to another, but for very different reasons, as Choudhury makes the move to Vicarage Road. Watford are one of the favourites to clinch the Championship title and a lot of this depends on the future of their lethal front three. Joao Pedro is the most likely to stay, with Ismaila Sarr’s halfway line goal on Monday night only helping his case for a big move.

Focusing on the Choudhury and the Leicester City midfielder is joining an experienced cohort. Tom Cleverley is the captain under Rob Edwards’ management with Congo international Edo Kayembe partnering the former Manchester United man. In the current system, a 3-4-3 of sorts, there is space for just two central players of this ilk.

The next man up currently is Dan Gosling and so Choudhury could well get his chance given the convolution of Championship fixtures. Times are tough at the King Power and from the player’s point of view, this move makes a lot of sense.
