Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has a great relationship with manager Erik ten Hag and the Dutch boss is “in love” with the right-back, reports Fabrizio Romano. The 23-year-old has started every single one of the Red Devils’ Premier League games this season and registered an assist in the six appearances so far.

Dalot Convinces Ten Hag Not to Make Move for Sergino Dest
In the last few weeks of the summer transfer window, United were linked with a move for a new right-back that can compete for that spot. Sergino Dest was one of the names linked to them, but Romano adds that Ten Hag was not at all eager to sign the USA international in the summer. That is because he is convinced that Dalot can do a solid job as his starting right-back this season, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka set to compete with him.

Another reason why the Portuguese full-back is so admired by Ten Hag is that he is a popular figure in the dressing room. He has a great relationship with many of the players in the squad, with his easy-going, friendly personality helping him create a solid bond with those around him.

Dalot Set for Contract Extension Talks With United
After his impressive performances this season, the 23-year-old is in line to get a new contract from the club. Romano adds that United have planned to hold meetings with Dalot and his representatives over a new deal in the coming months. There is a sense of urgency there as his current contract is set to expire in June 2023.

The Portuguese international has further improved terms with his club by not even entertaining the prospect of joining Barcelona in the summer, even after the Spanish side showed interest in signing him. The right-back has only made around 71 appearances for the Red Devils in his career, but now that he’s become the stalwart right-back under Ten Hag, those numbers should significantly increase in the near future.
