Tottenham Hotspur have endured a stuttering first half to the 2022/23 campaign. Antonio Conte’s men are currently just two points adrift of the Premier League top four, however, their performances have been very concerning and they are currently playing at two or three levels below their very best.
For that reason though, if Spurs are able to strengthen their squad successfully in this window, then they would still have a very good chance of making the top four if Conte can get things clicking in the second half of the season.
The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick appears to believe that may be the case, reporting that Tottenham would like to make up to three signings this month. Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed the links.

Pedro Porro
As many have, Kilpatrick has also reported that 23-year-old Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro is Spurs’ priority, with Conte keen to strengthen his right wing-back position. Despite that though, it will not necessarily be an easy deal to get done this January.
Kilpatrick stressed the fact that Sporting “are holding out for the player’s full €45 million (£39.5 million) release clause” and are desperate not to lose the talented youngster part-way through the season.

The wing-back position is crucial to Antonio Conte’s system, and if Tottenham were able to secure the Spaniard’s service this January, he could have a huge impact on the side during the remainder of the season.

Kilpatrick went on to say that Conte would also like to bring in an attacker, as well as a goalkeeper to succeed captain Hugo Lloris, who is now 36 years of age.
With Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Lucas Moura all currently injured, an attacker, even if only on a short-term loan, would be a very smart move and would provide Conte’s side with another source of goals.
Whilst a goalkeeper ready to become Spurs’ number one when Lloris’ time at the club comes to an end, would represent a shrewd example of planning for the future and dealing with potential issues proactively, rather than reactively.

All in all, it appears as though Tottenham are going to have a very busy January transfer window, and they will be hoping that their business will help propel them into the top four.
