According to Fabrizio Romano, there is a “big issue” in the agreement between PSG and Chelsea for Hakim Ziyech. The London club reportedly sent the wrong documents three different times, as stated by Bruno Salomon. Ben Jacobs stated that PSG were “furious” in his live Twitter Space at the time, with both sides scrambling to make the agreement happen.
Since this issue emerged, it is increasingly becoming the accepted view amongst journalists including Romano that the deal for Hakin Ziyech is off.

What is the Problem?
The main issue with trying to complete a deal on Deadline Day is the fact that everything needs to be in the right place by the time the transfer window slams shut. According to reports, Chelsea sent the wrong documents to PSG repeatedly, which meant that despite thinking that they sent everything correctly, the documents were entirely wrong. The contracts, in this case, would be invalid, leaving Hakim Ziyech as a Chelsea player going into February.

Why Chelsea Need to Move Hakim Ziyech
Chelsea are spending a lot of money in this transfer window. Between the summer and January, spending has spiralled, with the record British transfer fee going on new midfielder Enzo Fernandez. However, the club could find themselves brushing up against FFP limits. By getting the Moroccan’s wages off the club’s books, there is a far greater chance of succeeding in case of any FFP audits or financial challenges in the coming years.

What Could Happen Next?
According to Ben Jacobs, the move is effectively off. Whilst PSG have the right to an appeal, as a general rule if the papers are not in in a timely manner then there is nothing that the club can do. The Blues seem to have stranded their winger in Paris, aware that he can’t play for the club that does want him whilst having to return to the one that doesn’t. There could be a twist in the tale through an appeal, but it isn’t likely.
