Liverpool contemplating move for Caicedo
Midfield exits could tempt Liverpool to join race
Talksport has revealed that Liverpool ‘will consider joining the race’ for Brighton’s Caicedo should Jordan Henderson and Fabinho leave Anfield this summer.
Both players have been attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, with Henderson being offered a reported £700k a week to join up with Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq, whilst Fabinho could join Al Ittihad for £40 million.
Despite already recruiting two new midfielders in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool remain light in midfield with Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain having all left the club.
Romeo Lavia was already being linked with a move to Anfield before the recent developments from Saudi Arabia, and now it would seem that should Liverpool lose their captain and Fabinho, a ready made Premier League midfielder is required.
Enter Caicedo, the Brighton man has impressed many suitors in his time on the South coast with both Arsenal and Chelsea having voiced an interest in the midfielder.
Arsenal’s interest has waned in recent months as they chase the signature of Declan Rice, however, Chelsea remain well and truly in the race for 21-year-old.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed that ‘talks are underway between Chelsea and Brighton’, which could be a blow to Liverpool should they decide to make a move for the Ecuadorian.
How much will Caicedo cost?
Caicedo joined Brighton from Independiente for £5 million in 2021, and after an initial loan to Belgium for the first half of the 2021/22 season, he has gone on to make 53 appearances for the Seagulls.
The 21-year-old’s performances last season are what have really caught the eye, though. With 37 Premier League appearances, Caicedo was a key member of both Graham Potter and then Roberto de Zerbi’s sides as Brighton claimed European football for the first time in their history.
Brighton now value the midfielder at £100 million and if they are to get anywhere near that figure, it would again show the club’s excellent dealings in the transfer market, and the club are likely to play hardball with one of their top assets.
The Ecuadorian was subject to several bids from Arsenal in January for a reported £ 60 and £70 million but these were rejected as they believed Caicedo was crucial in helping them achieve their dream of playing in Europe.
The Brighton hierarchy has shown time and again that they will not sell their best players cheaply and it will be no different for Caicedo, if Liverpool or Chelsea want their man, they will have to stump up the cash.
