What Happened with the Liverpool Caicedo Deal?
On the 11th August, Fabrizio Romano noted that Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion were preparing contracts to sign for the completion of Caicedo’s transfer to Merseyside. However, this didn’t come to fruition. More recent reports note that the Ecuadorian midfielder is committed to the Blues after having an existing agreement with them, following a similar transfer saga in the winter window. Despite being able to forge a deal with Brighton, Jurgen Klopp’s side were unable to persuade the midfielder to go to Anfield.

Why Chelsea Want to Unveil Caicedo at Stamford Bridge
There are a few reasons that Todd Boehly’s side might want to unveil their new midfielder at Stamford Bridge in the first match of the season, the first of which is a matter of sheer pride. They open the season by taking on the same rivals that they fought over the midfielder with, so parading the Ecuadorian around the ground in front of Liverpool fans and players is likely to feel incredibly satisfying.

Fan morale is another big advantage of following this strategy. Loyal Blues have had very little to cheer about lately, with the club’s dire performances under Frank Lampard being uninspiring at best and infuriating at worst. Showing off the likes of Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku is sure to give their supporters a boost going into what will be an incredibly difficult tie.
