Moreover, Romano claims that United have only called to discuss the possibility of the deal rather than making a concrete bid. The journalist states that Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is on top of their priority list of left-back targets while Tottenham Hotspur man Sergio Reguilon is also being considered.

After this, reports in Spain have made a broader claim about Alonso’s potential move to Old Trafford. It has been claimed that the Red Devils have made a two-year contract offer to the 32-year-old. This would include one year on loan from Barcelona before joining as a free agent next summer with a year left on his deal at Old Trafford.

How Can Alonso Fit In at Old Trafford?

Alonso has plenty of experience playing in the Premier League in the past, having made 154 appearances for Chelsea in the competition and even being part of their 2016-17 league-winning squad.

The 32-year-old knows what it takes to excel in England and can definitely add more experience to the Red Devils’ squad. He is a natural left-back, who can also operate as a wing-back and has also played as a centre-back for the Spanish side over the last year. The Spaniard made 37 appearances for Barcelona last season, providing three assists, but it remains to be seen if Erik ten Hag’s side can get this deal done anytime soon.
