Mauricio Pochettino’s debut season at Chelsea has been riddled with injuries. The Blues’ fitness woes peaked when they had 14 players out before facing Tottenham on May 2. However, since then, the Blues have only received good news on the injury front.

Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling, Malo Gusto, Axel Disasi, and Levi Colwill all returned to Chelsea’s squad before James made his long-awaited comeback against Nottingham Forest last weekend.
Having revived their chances of claiming a European spot for the next term, they are eager to end the season on a positive note. Pochettino has now confirmed two more players are close to making late comebacks from injury.

Chilwell and Chukwuemeka have returned to team training ahead of Chelsea’s penultimate game of the season. However, their presence in the matchday squad against Brighton is not guaranteed.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Pochettino said: “It’s very good news to have many players back on track. Chilwell is really close but not certain to be part of the squad. Carney [Chukwuemeka], also. We need to assess if they can be in the squad [vs Brighton] or over the weekend.”

Robert Sanchez, who restarted partial team training last week, has been unable to return to full training. The goalkeeper is back under a “reconditioning program”, according to Chelsea’s latest injury update.
Enzo Fernandez, Wesley Fofana, and Romeo Lavia all remain in rehab with long-term injuries, looking to come back for the pre-season.
