Manchester United are in the efforts of trimming down their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season to make necessary room for new signings. It now appears that the club are ready to offload their promising young defender, Willy Kambwala.

Details of Kambwala’s Move to Villarreal Revealed
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Villarreal are close to securing a deal to sign the French defender after convincing him to join them for the next phase of his career. It is added that this will be a permanent sale and not a loan move, with the Red Devils ready to cash in on the centre-back.

The journalist states that United are going to receive a fee of around £8.4 million for the 20-year-old defender. He also adds that there is going to be a buy-back clause inserted into the deal, meaning that they could bring back Kambwala if they wish to in the future. Romano has given his “here we go” for the deal and adds that a medical has already been booked by Villarreal for the centre-back, who has agreed on a five-year contract with the Spanish side.
Why is Kambwala Being Sold?
Kambwala was reportedly reluctant over the possibility of leaving Old Trafford but made the decision after being told by Ten Hag that he’d be way below the centre-back pecking order at the club next season.

This comes after United confirmed that Jonny Evans would remain a part of their squad for another season following a contract extension. Hence, the 19-year-old has decided to move away from the Red Devils to get more regular game time and continue his development. He had his breakthrough campaign at Old Trafford in the 2023/24 season, making 10 appearances for the senior team, and was hailed as “brilliant” by manager ten Hag.
